Thank you, for your interest in becoming a soccer official for WNYSRA. As part of our unit, you will receive the training and knowledge that is needed to perform the duties of a soccer referee in match play. Our unit currently handles games for the STTSL, Twin Tiers, and the Thruway League. Game locations include: Dunkirk, Westfield, Jamestown, Olean, NY, Bradford, PA, and several places in-between. Your assignor will work with you for placement of games that are appropriate for your level and skill. Age groups are U-10 through Adults.
Annual training for 2017 is being held in Jamestown (April), Olean (February) and Fredonia (March). See the Calendar for the exact dates.
In order to become a referee, you will need to take a certification class on the Laws of the game under the auspices of FIFA and USSF.
Requirements to Become a Referee in Western New York State:
1. You must be at least 12 years old as of May 1st of your first year of registration.
2. You must complete a certification class.
3. If you are NOT a U.S. Citizen, you must be eligible to work in the United States.
4. In order to work virtually any youth game in Western New York, you must possess a valid Risk Management Pass from New York State West Youth Soccer Association (NYSWYSA).
U.S Soccer Federation Referee Program requires that in order for officials to maintain their current grade for the next registration period, they must complete the mandatory Grade Maintenance Requirements.
